The Holistic Coach’s Guide to Finding the Right Home:Her Lucky-Number Sanctuary Hits the Market

54 Reeve Street, Clayfield

A well-known and highly rated Brisbane holistic coach, author and speaker is selling her Clayfield Queenslander she knew was “the one” the moment she walked through the door.

Sarah Louise Gowns and husband are selling their five-bedroom home at 54 Reeve Street, Clayfield, after nearly five years raising their blended family there.

The couple are downsizing as their children move out, with their youngest daughter finishing Year 12 this year.

For Ms Gowns, a holistic coach, the home had to offer more than an impressive floorplan.

“Ultimately, choosing a home is about how you feel when you are standing inside it. Sometimes your body knows you are home before your mind does. There should be a sense of ease, a feeling that you can exhale, let your guard down and be yourself.”

“Our homes are our sanctuaries. They’re where we sleep, recharge, connect with the people we love and spend so much of our lives, so how a space feels is important,” Ms Gowns said.

The address offers another talking point. In numerology, 54 adds to nine, a number associated with success and longevity.

“It is a lucky home. We’ve been lucky here, with so many incredible memories over the years,” Ms Gowns said.

The elevated Queenslander blends traditional character with modern family living, retaining VJ walls, polished timber floors and high ceilings while offering five bedrooms, multiple living zones and expansive outdoor entertaining areas.

At the back of the home, large doors open to decks surrounded by dense greenery, creating a private retreat in the heart of Clayfield.

“For me, natural light is also incredibly important. Ms Gowns said.

“There is something about a home filled with daylight that immediately feels healthier and more uplifting. I don’t want to be turning artificial lights on all day. I want to wake with the light, see the sky and feel connected to the outside world,” Ms Gowns said.

Sarah Louise’s guide to finding the right home

• Notice your immediate feeling when you walk in. Do you feel at ease and able to exhale?

• Look for natural light, fresh air and a connection to the outdoors.

• Consider whether the space gives you privacy, calm and room to recharge.

• Think beyond the floorplan. Can you picture your real life there, including family, work and downtime?

• Trust the practical details, but don’t ignore your instinct.

On the lower-level covered deck, the couple has created a private wellness area with a full-spectrum sauna incorporating red-light therapy and a spa, used as an ice bath through winter.

The lower level also includes a large rumpus room, kitchenette and bathroom, providing flexible separation for teenagers, guests, extended family, live-in help or a home business.

Listed with Place Ascot director Patrick McKinnon and Liam Seeto, the home combines the character buyers love in a Queenslander with the separation modern families increasingly need.

“The self-contained lower level is a real point of difference,” Mr McKinnon said.

“It could work for older children, grandparents, guests, a live-in nanny, extended family, a home office or a wellness business. It gives people space to live independently while still being part of the home.”

54 Reeve Street, Clayfield, goes to auction on site on Saturday, September 12 at 12pm.
